Feb 9: Psalm 40; Leviticus 5-7

Song for today: And He Has Put A New Song In My Mouth

I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
•••
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.
•••
You have multiplied, O Lord my God,
your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them,
yet they are more than can be told.
In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
but you have given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
you have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.”
I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
behold, I have not restrained my lips,
as you know, O Lord.
I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
from the great congregation.
As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
your mercy from me;
your steadfast love and your faithfulness will
ever preserve me!
•••
But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
As for me, I am poor and needy,
but the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
do not delay, O my God!
from Psalm 40

If anyone sins in that he hears a public adjuration to testify, and though he is a witness, whether he has seen or come to know the matter, yet does not speak, he shall bear his iniquity;
•••
if anyone utters with his lips a rash oath to do evil or to do good, any sort of rash oath that people swear, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it, and he realizes his guilt in any of these; when he realizes his guilt in any of these and confesses the sin he has committed, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation for the sin that he has committed,
•••
If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unintentionally in any of the holy things of the Lord, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation, a ram without blemish out of the flock, valued in silver shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering. He shall also make restitution for what he has done amiss in the holy thing and shall add a fifth to it and give it to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven.
from Leviticus 5

If anyone sins and commits a breach of faith against the Lord by deceiving his neighbor in a matter of deposit or security, or through robbery, or if he has oppressed his neighbor or has found something lost and lied about it, swearing falsely ••• he shall restore it in full and shall add a fifth to it, and give it to him to whom it belongs on the day he realizes his guilt.
•••
This is the law of the burnt offering.
•••
Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.
•••
this is the law of the grain offering.
•••
This is the offering that Aaron and his sons shall offer to the Lord on the day when he is anointed:
•••
This is the law of the sin offering.
from Leviticus 6

This is the law of the guilt offering. It is most holy
•••
this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings that one may offer to the Lord.
•••
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, You shall eat no fat ••• Moreover, you shall eat no blood whatever,
•••
the breast that is waved and the thigh that is contributed I have taken from the people of Israel, out of the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons, as a perpetual due from the people of Israel.
