Song for today: You Never Let Go
Today’s country: Cambodia
The plans of the heart belong to man,
but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
•••
All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the spirit.
•••
Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.
•••
The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.
•••
How much better to get wisdom than gold!
To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
•••
Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.
•••
Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
•••
Gray hair is a crown of glory;
it is gained in a righteous life.
•••
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
from Prov 16
David assembled all Israel from the Nile of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim that belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord who sits enthroned above the cherubim.
•••
the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark, and he died there before God. And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzza to this day. And David was afraid of God that day, and he said, “How can I bring the ark of God home to me?”
from 1Chr 13
Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, also masons and carpenters to build a house for him. And David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.
•••
the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
from 1Chr 14
he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. Then David said that no one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the Lord had chosen them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister to him forever.
•••
You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites. Consecrate yourselves, you and your brothers, so that you may bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it. Because you did not carry it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not seek him according to the rule.”
from 1Chr 15
they brought in the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
•••
he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.
•••
on that day David first appointed that thanksgiving be sung to the Lord by Asaph and his brothers.
•••
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his place.
from 1Chr 16
